About Me

Hello, I’m Flossie !

Welcome to Candyflosslife, my food blog with healthy, down to earth easy recipes that you would actually want to eat.

I’m a passionate advocate for healthy eating without losing the small pleasures & love travelling!

After all, life is for living! 🫶

I live in England, UK, in Britain’s oldest recorded city (Colchester) with my husband Dave and our dog Nala.

My favorite things are freshly baked sourdough bread, grilled food and walking in the woods. Oooh… and I love a strong cup of coffee !

I’m a true foodie at heart!

For me, healthy eating has been a way of life and I label myself as a “flexitarian“. I have listed more of my favorite things and they help with balanced eating:

  • Love bread
  • Love grilling
  • Love seasonal eats
  • Love canned and frozen veg
  • Love fermented foods
  • Love herbs and spices

My food career

Throughout my entire career, I’ve been in the food manufacturing industry, starting as a food scientist.

My expertise is in:

  • the legal aspects of food (like making sure food is safe to eat and has great quality)
  • a good understanding of nutritional benefits
  • how food nutrients affect our lives.

I hope you are at least half obsessed with yummy food and that does you good 😃, get emailing me, so I can share the good stuff with you too!

Growing up with Balkan food

As a child, I was surrounded by food lovers like my grandmothers and mother.

I loved sharing recipes with my family and friends. When I was young, I used to experiment with recipes from my mom’s recipe book, even though she rarely used it.

Many of these recipes were fancy French dishes. It wasn’t easy to find fancy ingredients in the old communist Balkan countries during the late ’70s.

So, that’s how I adapted to cook with less, but create a strong taste balance.

Food from travels

Through my working life and my personal life, I have been incredibly fortunate to travel to many countries. Although my strengths are rooted in Balkan cuisine, I have immersed myself in a variety of cuisines.

From Middle Eastern, to South American to Thai and English, my greediness loves them all 😊

My mission (healthy, simple and easy recipes)

Growing up around my family’s farm, the food was never dull, seasonal and always abundant.

My best memories were the meals during late August after harvesting grapes from the vineyards. That’s when fresh vegetables and fruit in season were at their best.

These days I enjoy foraging for berries or elderflower in the English hedgerows.

Even though I put tons of passion in my cooking, I’m not a fan of complicated food. Leave those to the restaurateurs!

Help is on its way for your midweek dinner

As a home-cook and mummy, I understand the struggle with the question: what’s for dinner?

Do you obsess about it throughout the day or on your journey from work? You need tasty, healthful but simple and easy recipes!

You need a dinner that helps pause each day in its tracks. And give you and your family that moment of connection and joyful taste buds.

improvise like a Pro

I think of myself as an eclectic home-cook, therefore I can improvise easily and I can show you how!

what is eclectic cooking?

Eclectic cooking is an intuitive style of cooking that draws inspiration and ingredients from a diverse range of culinary traditions and cultures.

I always put a twist on dishes collected from travelling or my childhood that are darn tasty and easy to make. But not without keeping them as authentic as possible.

My mission is to help you learn how to cook by heart. Once you learn cooking by heart, recipes are optional, and your passion starts taking the lead.

Keep it simple and waste less

If you could spend less time cooking with amazing flavor and wholesome deliciousness, wouldn’t you?

Most of my recipes have three elements and I keep them uncomplicated. It makes an easier flow altogether and you can optimise your grocery shopping.

This means you will always have at least three main ingredients handy to put together, almost like the capsulepantry I have put together in my free ebook. Sign up to get it in your inbox 😉!

My simple recipes will often include options if you are vegetarian or vegan. And suggestions for your leftovers to help keep down your food waste!

Healthy eating made easy (debunked)

As a cancer survivor, I researched healthy eating and how to eat well to support my immune system. This led me to a more relaxed attitude to food, but eat the rainbow ( 30 plants each week ).

I never calories watch, those days are well and truly behind me !

But if you are into gut friendly or protein meal ideas, you are sure to find some great options on my blog.

I am so thrilled you are here, there are lots for you to take in I’m sure, enjoy the ride!
